M.C. Escher’s “Relativity”
Escher was a surrealist painter very well loved by mathematicians and film makers. His works have inspired Terry Gilliam as well as Jim Henson’s Labyrinth. Escher’s “Ascending and Descending is an image of stairs going off in all directions, up, down and sideways, and where the people are oriented in different positions even on the same flight of stairs. It is a trippy lithograph print depicting a large room of stairs with different gravity orientations.
