St. Basil’s Cathedral, Moscow
The Cathedral of Saint Vassily the Blessed or more commonly called St. Basil’s Cathedral is the official name of the onion spired church located in Moscow’s Red Square, and near the Kremlin. The Cathedral was originally constructed from 1551 to 1560, with additional construction up to 1580. It is the only example of Byzantine construction which had the distinctive spires. The design of the building was meant to represent the bonfire flames rising to the sky.
