Women know how long it takes to curl their hair at a salon. Now imagine curling your beard in different size curls. This takes a lot of time to do, even with a curling iron. The beard does give the man a certain gravitas, or a sense of levity, making him look like the Baron Munchausen. This is a good representation of the fun and humor inherent in a beard and moustache competition.
